Partnering with Amgen to improve osteoporosis screening

In December of 2019, 16 Bit received $150k in funding from Amgen Canada to develop machine-learning based osteoporosis screening and fracture risk prediction tools. The project involved working with the Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study, a rich longitudinal cohort study of 6,539 women and 2,884 men. Our work with the CaMos dataset proved the concept that a machine learning algorithm could be trained to estimate bone mineral density from conventional x-ray. This ultimately led to the development of our opportunistic screening tool, Rho.
